Safran Sailing Team: A total focus on performance

Kaïros, a team founded in 2007 and headed by Roland Jourdain and Sophie Vercelletto, was chosen by Safran following a competitive bid process in early 2016, to handle the technical and performance management of the new Safran monohull ocean racer in the run-up to the 2016-17 Vendée Globe round-the-world race. Located in the Breton port of Concarneau, Kaïros has an eco-innovation department that favors the use of biomaterials.

Jean-Marie de La Porte, Project Manager

Head of IT system security for a Safran Morpho entity (Safran Identity & Security), Jean-Marie de La Porte coordinates relations between Safran and all actors in the project (skipper Morgan Lagravière, Kaïros led by Roland Jourdain, naval architects and outside firms). He also oversees technical contributions by Group companies.

Roland Jourdain, Project Manager and Morgan Lagravière's coach

Roland supervises preparations of the Safran boat, as well as Morgan's training. "Bilou" is not only one of France's most popular navigators, he's also involved in environmental protection, including the creation of a design firm specialized in biomaterials, and "Explore", an investment fund for innovative environmental projects.

Sophie Vercelletto, Administrative and Financial Manager for the Safran project

Sophie joined Roland as co-manager of the company Kaïros in 2009. She supervises administrative, budgetary and HR aspects of the project, as well as relations with Safran's communications team. Trained as a lawyer, Sylvie was managing director of the Vendée Globe race from 2003 to 2009.

Anne Denis, Administrator and Accountant

Boasting long experience in company and project management, Anne assists Sophie in managing the Safran project.

Stanislas Delbarre, Boat Manager

Stanislas coordinates the thousand and one technical details concerning the boat – everything handled by the technical team to ensure that Safran will be in tip-top shape for each race. He brings to the table long experience as a sailor and constructor. Fully committed to his job, Stanislas also brings a touch of humor, even during the most difficult moments.

Ludovic Bosser, Composites Manager

Ludovic is an acknowledged expert in all types of composites, including biomaterials. After earning a vocational degree in composite materials, he joined Kaïros in 2007 as composites manager. He is naturally in charge of this aspect for the Safran project.

Thomas Lebee, Mechanical, Fittings and Hydraulics Manager

Thomas joined the team in 2007. A multi-talented guy, he has specialized in the hydraulics, fittings and mechanical aspects of boats managed by Kaïros, including Safran. He also teams up with Ludovic to make biocomposite parts.

Jules Delpech, Technical Preparer - Logistics

Jules is very close to Morgan Lagravière, having worked with him for the last six years. He learned his future trade of preparer on the job, with tasks including maintenance, renovation, seamanship, etc. on different types of boats. Jules knows what Morgan expects, and makes sure nothing is missing during the races. He followed all steps in the construction of Safran, and knows the boat like the back of his hand.

Clément Duraffourg, Project engineer, electronics and IT Manager

After earning his engineering degree at the Ecole Centrale de Nantes, Clément worked with the naval architect Guillaume Verdier and for Jean-Pierre Dick's team before joining the Safran project. At Kaïros, Clément oversees the performance of the boat's electronic and computer systems.
