Safran’s sailing sponsorship: The milestones

Safran's sailing sponsorship project was among the longest in offshore racing, and with a unique involvement in the innovation and technology of the boats. Over the last 12 years, the 2 Safran IMOCA, and the Figaro-Bénéteau, Safran-Guy Cotten, with 3 talented skippers on board, have competed in the most prestigious sailing events. And several thousand employees of the Group have followed and shared this great adventure.

Safran's successful history in the sailing world has been illustrated by a fine track record: 13 transats, comprising three Route du Rhum, four Transat Jacques Vabre and three Vendée Globe races, including a very good third place in 2008. The two Safran monohulls have competed in nearly 40 races, finishing on the podium in more than half of them, not to mention the victory in the Transat AG2R on the Figaro circuit in 2014.

The three boats have carried the colours of Safran proudly. As sponsor and boat-owner, the Group was the first to entrust the design of its two 60' monohulls to the architectural duo - formed by Vincent Lauriot-Prévost of the VPLP agency, and Guillaume Verdier. More than 200 engineers were involved in their construction, bringing to bear the Group's expertise and know-how from their high-tech fields.

The name Safran will not disappear from the screens of international timekeepers just yet. It remains the virtual opponent of many contenders for the North Atlantic record, of which it is still the holder of the solo, monohull time since 2013.

On social networks, 26,807 fans have followed the Safran Sailing Team on Facebook; 9,300 followers have read the 2,750 published tweets; and several hundreds of thousands of internet users followed the project on the dedicated "safran-sailingteam.com" site and supported the three skippers during their races.

With 75 days until the start of the Transat Jacques Vabre, which will leave Le Havre on October 25, Morgan Lagravière and Nicolas Lunven’s training sessions are building momentum. The young Safran duo will participate in the Artemis Challenge and the Rolex Fastnet Race in England from August 13 to 16.
