Safran finishes fifth and qualifies for the Vendée Globe
The final hours of the race were not simple and dragged on for Marc
Guillemot, as the wind became very light (around 7 knots) and head
on. Safran was forced to tack upwind through the evening and cold
weather between Penmarc'h Point (SW tip of Brittany) and the finish
line in Port-la-Forêt, which was something the first four competitors
avoided having to do.
Safran thus finishes in fifth place in this
first edition of the Transat Ecover B to B. We'll be hearing today
Marc Guillemot's first reactions.
He's done it. Marc Guillemot and Safran have qualified for the Vendée
Globe. The large grey and orange monohull sailed by the yachtsman
from La Trinité crossed the finish on Friday 14th December 2007 at 23
h 25' 44'', after 15 days 8 hours 25 minutes and 44 seconds of
sailing, between Salvador da Baha (Brazil) and Port-la-Forêt.
