Sailors’ knots

At sea, knots often ensure safety. Every knot has a specific function. You have to allow for the type of tension that the rope undergoes – continuous or tugging? – the diameter of the available rope, or the ropes to be joined. Knots are selected according to their final purpose: reliably tight, or easy to make or undo rapidly for emergency handling.
