Marc Guillemot - A born competitor
Born in Quimper (Finistère region of Brittany) on June 25, 1959, Marc Guillemot now lives in Saint-Philibert (Morbihan region of Brittany, near La Trinité-sur-Mer) with his wife Christine Vannier, an artist and photographer, and their two children. Marc Guillemot grew up in the traditional maritime atmosphere of Brittany, where he quickly caught the ocean racing fever. It didn’t matter if he sailed monohulls, catamarans or trimarans: as long as there was the headiness of speed under sail and the spice of competition. In 1979 Marc entered his first solo race.

Competition in his blood
In 1981, Marc won his class in the Twostar multihull race. At that time he met Nigel Irens and Patrick Morvan, who asked him to take part in the construction of Jet Services II. Marc, Jean Le Cam and Serge Madec formed a dynamic 3-man crew who pulverized the Atlantic crossing record in 1984, in 8 days and 16 hours. But during another transatlantic crossing, he would experience the worst night of his life. In 1985, Jet Services IV, a powerful 25-meter catamaran, plunged into the water and rolled over. Jean Castenet lost his life, while Patrick Morvan and Marc Guillemot were severely injured.

High-profile return
After two years of rehabilitation Marc returned to competitive racing. In 1988, he won a number of races on Jet Services V, and set a new Atlantic crossing record of 7 days, 6 hours, 32 minutes. Starting in 1996, at the helm of his ocean-going La Trinitaine I trimaran, he would chalk up a number of prestigious podium finishes, from the Québec-Saint Malo to the Route du Rhum.
Marc Guillemot would return to monohull boats in 2005 with the Safran project. With the boat designed by the team of Verdier-Lauriot Prévost having proven its speed and overall performance, plus an exceptional first Vendée Globe, finishing third against all odds, Marc Guillemot is more than ever ready to exercise his talents. Marc has now sailed more than 50,000 nautical miles on Safran, and Marc is kicking off a new phase in the program - with some very ambitious goals indeed. That he would realize the same year with the victory in the Transat Jacques Vabre 2009, with his co-skipper, Charles Caudrelier Benac.
